DAY 1 - Arrive Copenhagen, Denmark
Saturday, June 19, 2027

Welcome to Copenhagen, the Capital of Denmark!

There’s so much to see and do on this journey through Scandinavia, so registration will run from 3pm-5pm today. You may want to arrive a day early, or at least ensure an early flight in, because we are going to hit the ground running today!

Copenhagen is known for its culture and historical landmarks, which we will be seeing on our first day, thanks to a fun orienteering route around the city! Teams will work together to read the R2A maps and navigate their way around. You’ll see the Little Mermaid, Langelinie, the Opera House, Kastellet and pass Amalienborg where the Danish royal family lives. Our finish is strategically placed at the world’s longest outdoor bar, at the harbor called Nyhavn. We visited the oldest pub in Ireland and the highest pub in Cusco, Peru, so surely we’ll hit the world’s longest outdoor bar in Denmark!

After having kicked-off our first event we will take a water taxi to Reffen, an open-air space lined with food trucks. With a relaxed urban vibe, it’s perfect for grabbing dinner, sipping on a beverage seaside, and soaking in the views of the Copenhagen harbor.

Day 2 will have us moving from Denmark to our second country, Sweden!
We’ll drive north along the coast to our first hike/run/race destination of Kronborg, Denmark. This beautiful castle happens to also be where Hamlet was derived. We’ll start in the forest, get out onto the coast, and finish in the catacombs of Kronborg!
After a well-deserved lunch, we’ll board the short ferry ride to Sweden. This will allow us plenty of time to enjoy the afternoon in Kullaberg, Sweden! Having fun yet? Hard to believe we’re just getting started, right?!
We’ll wake up to views of the ocean from our lodging in Kullaberg. It’s the perfect setting for Race Day 2. Following a light breakfast, we’ll set off for our hike/run/race in the National Park of Kullaberg and run through the archipelago! You’ll likely get your feet a little wet on this one. At the finish line you’ll have two options;
  1. Head back to the buses for a quick trip back to the hotel
  2. Rappel down the stone wall overlooking this gorgeous body of water – we’ll have multiple teams and multiple lines to get everyone through this awesome adventure!
After a quick shower, it’s time to continue our journey through Sweden, to Lake Vättern. Lake Vattern is the 6th largest lake in all of Europe. We’ll have some fun on the lake tomorrow. For the rest of today, you might want to take it easy. Check in, relax, and maybe close your eyes for a bit. Because tonight we are celebrating MIDSUMMER, and the longest week of the year! Sweden, the land of the midnight sun, will not take this much sunlight for granted. The owners of the two hotels where we are staying are preparing to host us for an awesome Swedish celebration; flower wreaths in your hair, dancing, live music, and magical moments will be waiting for us, coupled with the sun that (just about) never sets. Lots of relay races and field games are in store that night too!
Definitely sleep in a bit today. And after that, we’ll finally explore the waters of Lake Vattern. Yesterday, we looked onto it. Today, we get on it!
We’ll cruise around Lake Vattern aboard the sailboat S.S. Trafikon. The ship will take us through stunning harbors, beaches, and the island of Visingsö, also known as “The Pearl of Lake Vättern”. Race Day 3 will have us running all over the island. When finished, please don’t hesitate to cool off in the lake! Lunch will be served on the smooth boat ride back to shore.

Later in the afternoon we will head east to Sweden’s capital, STOCKHOLM!

No hiking, running, or racing today. But…for those interested…we’ve lined up a great biking tour through the city. Since we’ll be departing Stockholm later in the afternoon, this comes highly recommended, along with Stockholm’s famous cinnamon buns. Indulge – you’ve earned it!
Now it’s time to make our way to the third country on our itinerary – FINLAND! This transition from one country to another won’t be as easy as Denmark to Sweden, but we can promise you it will be ten times as fun! We’ll be taking an overnight cruise ship from Sweden to Finland. Two-person cabins will make this voyage seamless. This ship also knows how to have plenty of fun. If you want to sit back, relax, and quietly take in the Baltic Sea views, please do. Alternatively, if you want to belly up to one of the many bars on board, sing karaoke, and dance the night away, that can be arranged too!
We will dock in Helsinki at 10.30am. No early starts today but we definitely have plans to hit the ground running when we anchor! Try not to sleep in until that very last minute when we dock, as the views of the stunning archipelago are worth taking in from the top deck.
Once we arrive at the harbor, we’ll be greeted by buses waiting to take us on our 4th hike/run/race of the week. An unforgettable trail run through the archipelago has been designed for us by Petri Forsman, an Adventure Racing World Champion! He’s excited to show us the best of the best, directly outside of Helsinki!
The opportunity to paddle post-race will be available to all. Kayaking between the islands is highly recommended.
This evening we will have the chance to explore Finland’s capital during the longest day of the year! The Finnish call their Mid Summer’s Eve day, “Juhannus”. A city celebration will be a few steps away from us so we’ll encourage everyone to join in the fun. Three countries down, one to go!
Today you’ll have a few more waking hours to enjoy the city of Helsinki. After that, it’s time for one last vessel to board. A ferry will deliver us from Helsinki, Finland to the FOURTH country on our itinerary – Tallin, Estonia!
Tallinn, Estonia’s capital on the Baltic Sea, is the country’s cultural hub. It is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, vibrant culture, and charming Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Fun fact – Estonia is not part of Scandinavia like the first three countries we will have adventured through. It is a “Baltic Country”, along with its neighbors, Latvia and Lithuania.
Our final walk/run/race will take us well outside of Tallin, through the beautiful bogs of Estonia. Similar to how Petri Forsman designed our course in Finland, we’ve enlisted some of the world’s best adventure racers, the brothers Rain Eensaar & Silver Eensaar, from ACE Adventure Race Team, to do the same in their home country. These Estonians will put us R2Aers to the test on this final day!
After the race we will drive to the seaside of Tallinn. A well deserved lunch awaits us in a true Estonian way. Not only will the setting be spectacular, but it is lined with Estonian saunas for a proper recovery from the morning’s adventure through the bogs.
Tonight marks our final celebration. 9 days, 8 nights, and FOUR countries! It is time to celebrate old and new friendships. We here at Race2Adventure believe in going out with a bang, so our party will take place in the center of Tallin, amongst the “City of Spires”.
In the immortal words of Lars and Maria, “We will all wake up happy, overwhelmed and one more weeklong-adventure richer.”
We did it again! But this time, it was 4 countries over 9 days and 8 nights! Your flight from Tallin, Estonia back to Denmark, Copenhagen is included in your registration fee. Although the 9th hotel night in Denmark, Copenhagen is not, it can be included for a small additional fee when registering. That or take a flight home today – any time after 1pm should work fine. Or…stick around Europe for a while. There’s clearly even more to see!
Whatever you do after this adventure, make plans to come with us again soon. 2028 and 2029 promise to be packed with show-stopping Race2Adventure experiences. We’re excited to keep living life to the fullest with you!
